Anyone got any cures for anxiety?
Ok so i’ve suffered from Anxiety for several years now, mainly i worry about not feeling well, it used to be i’d worry about feeling sick but now i worry about feeling lightheaded and dizzy, i worry over every little thing though, i even get anxious over worrying about being anxious, and it causes me to have like lil panic attacks. I never leave the house and even at home i get anxious almost every day. Anyone know any cures or relaxation techniques that would help? I’m desperate D=
@Caramac: Actualy, i haven’t tried any medication for it, i’m only 18 so i was too young before and haven’t been to the doctors since i turned 18
@frankiedoodle: I just looked on the Rescue Remedy website and googled it and it sounds really promising, might just try that, thanks =D

Worry about living your whole life in a coccoon and experiencing nothing. Then learn that anxiety is part of life. Then live.

I take OTC benedryl , it helps me to sleep . I used to lay awake worrying now I hardly lay awake.
BUT - more importantly you need to come up with resolutions to your problems and then not think about them once you’ve finally resolved them.
Have your thyroid hormones checked -

anxiety is only a thought. If you are living in the moment without thinking about the future or the past you will not know anxiety. The future is imaginary and the past is dead learn to live fully in the moment.

When I get upset like that, I immediately treat my brain like the enemy. I have this little inner conversation with it, telling it if it must try to upset me that I am not going to play. Then I go and sit in the most comfortable chair in the house and take a nap. That shuts everything down. I often fall sound asleep for just a little while. When I wake up, my whole nervous system has reset itself so I am okay again. What you are doing is simply telling your mind that you will not tolerate it offering upsetting feelings and ideas that you did not ask for. It is like training your mind to know beforehand that if it tries that with you it will get absolutely nowhere.

Sounds corny, doesn’t it, except that it works. My little naps usually take maybe twenty to thirty minutes, and when I wake up, I am okay again. You may wish to experiment with this technique, and I do hope you will find that it quiets everything down inside you, as well, so that you can continue to enjoy your day, as usual.
Sent with steady care from Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. I am 65, so I need to get this stuff right. Nobody likes to feel anxious nor upset. We need to take back control. Experts tell us the one thing which helps to overthrow anxiety very quickly is reclaiming control of the situation. They go on to state that what causes anxiety in the first place is the real or imagined sense of loss of control of things. That makes sense to me, and I think it probably will to you. By going and taking a short nap to rest your mind, you are regaining control of your nervous system by default - in other words, you are telling your mind that you "aren’t going to go there" with it when it is sending you the worried and anxious stuff. Take good care, now, and I hope I have really helped you feel better about managing things which can be absolutely overwhelming sometimes. People who have not experienced this stuff have no idea how upsetting it can be. That is also the main reason why you have to claim control of things again to put an end to it pushing you all over the place. The idea is to control anxiety and worry so that they do not control you. - C.

Anxiety is a terrible illness and if it’s taken hold of you for several years then you’ve obviously done and taken everything medically possible to try and alleviate your symptoms.
Have you tried yoga, or relaxation classes, this could be bought via DVD, (the yoga, relaxation moves) or CD (relaxation music), without leaving the confines of your home ?
They say take ’small steps’ at a time, try and do just that.
Go for a walk, first to the end of your gate/garden, then after a few days, to the end of your street, then to the local shop, etc.. you decide your limit, at the end of your destination, stop for a few minutes, breath slowly and deeply. Then walk back home. If you need to, take someone with you for that added confidence.
Everything you’re experiencing is in your mind, so you need to let your mind/body heal, let someone else take over any worries, financial burdens, or decisions for a while. Be assertive, tell them you need help, and that you’re unable to make such decisions for a while, start to look after yourself, and be more ‘positive’ and try to achieve goals…. like I said, it takes ‘baby steps’ at first, before you can take control again.
You can do this…honest, just have the faith to believe in yourself, and the determination to get well.
Good luck
Caramac x

I know how you feel. I have suffered the same sort of thing. I used to be agoraphobic because of the anxiety. I was convinced that the physical feelings I was having were me having a brain tumour or being possessed or something, and was really scared of feeling lightheaded, of going ‘mad.’
I was scared rigid. Going in a car, going out, even looking out of the window or watching telly made me panic. I thought I was forgetting everything, dying….Everything would go fuzzy, my head feels taught, I can’t focus my eyes, and I feel freaked out by things moving around, or anything that makes me feel like I’m moving. I literally froze up..
You will come to realise that you are scared of the fear, not going out, or whatever else you think you are too scared to do. It’s just you associate that thing with the fear. And although panic attacks are horrendous, they never hurt you. You will always get better, I promise.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy may help you. I myself have stayed pretty quiet about my feelings because I need my denial to cope sometimes. Denial is a vital part of recovery sometimes so don’t let people push you to get the help you ‘need.’ I’m also a lot more understanding toward myself than other people at times! The best thing is to get yourself out. Laying around, too much time on the computer and sleeping depresses the body and will make you feel more light headed. It also encourages you to ruminate and get anxious. Work experience or a part time course would be a good idea. Your mind and body are depressed and need something to do and think about. I did this and although I still suffer anxiety, it broke me out of a really bad cycle. I stopped being agoraphobic because of that. It’s not easy- at first I would cling to the door crying, and feeling like I was about to die, but it gets better. I force myself to do things now like go out even when I feel horrible, and I usually find it goes away once I start working or chatting with someone who doesn’t know about my problems so I feel I have to ‘make an effort.’ That’s another way you can help yourself- invite people around, suddenly something will switch on in your brain and you start tidying up, even if you feel anxious.
Other therapies that might help include acupuncture and massage. Most important of all though is to remember you are exactly the same person as you always were when you were younger, or healthier. You can be that person again. Don’t think of yourself as ill because I find that makes me feel hopeless. It makes me feel worry about how to get better. You don’t have to heal yourself, if you forget the problem then your body will heal itself. I had a bit of a disagreement with my community psychiatric nurse because of that. I just wanted to be left alone and over time I had faith that as long as I wasn’t pressured I would recover. But no, she kept setting me goals which I had to complete each week, which I wasn’t comfortable with and the pressure just upset me.Your natural energy will flow if you let go of expectations- expectations of feeling scared, expectations of failing, being ill, etc. Just pretend you’ve never felt scared, and just try and be yourself.
Anyway apart from those things there is no magic cure. You are not lacking energy or confidence, they are just being held back for the time being. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend anything too stimulant- avoid too much coffee and tea. You can drink all the tea in china it won’t make you feel any better, it’ll just make you jittery and over stimulate your imagination. Junk food is also easy to get hooked on when you’re depressed. Which just make your body feel even more crappy.
When your body becomes depressed and you’re not doing much exercise your blood pressure becomes very low. Your muscle need exercise, they will start twitching and feel irritating if you sit around too long, and I think your brain is the same. In order to try and wake you up a bit when your getting really low your adrenal glands will almost give you a shock, and they give people adrenaline when they go into cardiac arrest to get them going again. I do wonder if this is what triggers panic, and a sudden feeling of disorientation when you get really down, probably causing a brief moment of light headedness and then because of this you tense up and make it worse. It’s your body trying to do what should come naturally, and you are psychologically trying to hold it back by controlling your mind with fear. You can beat this addictive cycle, or at least learn to live with it. But there are no pills available I’m afraid apart from run of the mill antidepressants and stuff which the doctor may prescribe.

Yes one of them is right we must stay into today, some days into minutes if the days get to heavy, but most of all we must rely on God, because the enemy is attacking your mind, making you worry about this and that, read the story of Job and if you have gone thru any terrible events in life, you may also have post traumatic syndrome, with flash backs of the events not like war events. Sometimes we can loose a love one not necessarily death, but simply loosing someone we love and depends on how much we loved that person or sufferd it may effect our lives even today, any bad relationship can do that mother, dad, also children. If we feel we our not satisfied with our lives the future can overwhelm us, if we look into tommorrow- also you are not getting the emotional support you need that can be overwhelming as well. So try Emotinal Annoymous a 12 step program that will help a lot. I use to have a lot more issues than I have now untill a join a 12 step program, and if you need futher help get counseling, don’t try and do this on your OWN! this is one of the biggest reason people commit suicide, and have many addicttions and familys are torn apart, because they believe they can do this alone, we must trust someone: But don’t put your total faith in Doctors. I did not say don’t go but rely on God as well as a 12 step, you have this made in the shade by asking in this forum, you have comes to grip with something is not right, Good for you the battle has already been won! if you take the steps I am suggesting. God Bless
