I'm agoraphobic...extreme anxiety case. I can tell you to stay away from kava kava...i took it and it was starting to damgage my liver..I found this stuff called tru calm and it works pretty great for me. You can get it at the local pharmacy where I live so it should be at yours too. Also magnesium is good for lowering blood pressure and keeping your heart from beating really fast when you get anxious. It's also really safe and it's very hard to take too much of it.
References :
nothing legal that I can think of ;)

I used to have panic attacks alot, but I've learned to meditate and relax myself by using breathing techniques and just listening to my body. Results are only as immediate as you allow them to be.

I have learned to control most of my anxiety and now it takes a much more extreme situation to bring on an attack.
References :
http://www.panicattacks.com.au/meditate/meditat02.html

valerian root and kave kava or better yet celestial seasonings makes a tea with valerian in it that works very very well.

BE very careful with herbs though - most have side effects like kave kave is very bad for your liver i think and valerian is bad for something else - all herbs have side effects and some can interact with other meds so be careful and don't combine them - they can kill you too ya know. As far as these people telling you to take a lot of this stuff to get it to work - that is addict mentality - always follow the dosage directions - everyone's body is different and you may have a low tolerance so be careful

fyi: valerian is NOT a benzo - it works similarly to them as far as its effects on the neurotransmitter GABA so please ignore half of these comments
References :
http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/PrintablePages/herbMonograph/0,11475,4047,00.html

Note: In March 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning that taking kava has been associated with cases of liver damage. The FDA recommends that individuals -- especially those with liver diseases or those taking medications that might impair liver function -- discuss the use of kava with a healthcare professional before they begin taking it.

Britain, Canada, and the countries of the European Union have prohibited the sale of all kava products due to their potentially severe side effects, as well as to the likelihood that kava interacts with numerous other substances. Since the ban went into effect, however, some countries have resumed limited sales of kava. Other countries, including the United States, are considering whether or not to take it off the market. Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) is re-considering the safety of kava.

In Western cultures, kava most often has been used to reduce anxiety and treat insomnia
http://www.drugdigest.org/DD/DVH/HerbsWho/0,3923,4026|Kava-Kava,00.html

Extremely rare cases of liver damage have been associated with taking valerian, although the exact cause of the damage is unknown. Contaminants or substances other than valerian may have been involved. Liver damage can take years to develop. If you take valerian, inform your doctor so that your liver function can be monitored periodically. Notify your doctor immediately if you experience:

Excessive fatigue
Extreme widespread itchiness
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Pain or swelling in the upper right part of the abdomen
Yellowing of the skin or the white parts of the eyes
Case reports of valerian overdoses in up to 20 times the recommended dose have shown reversible effects such as:

Abdominal cramps
Chest tightness
Inability to control muscles
Very low body temperature
Less Severe Side Effects

The more common side effects of valerian generally are mild and temporary. They may include:

Daytime drowsiness
Excitability
Headache
Insomnia
In a few instance, taking valerian has also been associated with:

Dry mouth
Stomach upset
Vivid dreams

It is believed that valerian works in ways similar to the prescription drugs in the benzodiazepine class by increasing the body's supply of a neurotransmitter known as gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA).

There are none.
You can try positive thinking and also to not procrastinate about resolving any problems in your life.

You also need to develop a positive relationship with God and try to live by the teachings of Jesus and His apostles in the Bible.

If, after that, you are still anxious, you should see a doctor.
References :
Valerian Root is in the benzo family (Atavan, Valium, Xananx) so it's supposed to work as a natural relaxant. It is also supposed to help you sleep. Be careful though- it's really, really stinky and you have to take a lot to get results. Really, really stinky.
References :
Not right away. You need to take them everyday for about 4 weeks to see any results. It's worth it though.
