Does depression accompany anxiety most of the time?

I’m talking about generalized anxiety, I know sometimes people develop depression because of their constant anxiety. So would them lifting their depression give them a far greater chance of overcoming and beating their anxiety?

I had anxiety and it triggered depression. I think for me it was the other way around, that lifting the anxiety lifted the depression. The anxiety was a worse feeling than the depression for me.

As a side note, I found that my issues with depression and anxiety were related to gluten intolerance. When I stopped eating gluten all my anxiety and depression went away in like 2 days. I haven’t had any since. It works like this: most of the serotonin is located in your digestive tract and if it’s impaired in some way your body can’t use it properly. You might try it if medications aren’t working for you.

Definitely. Anxiety in it’s many forms, as well as depression (uni-polar or bi-polar) are usually comorbid. This means that they accompany each other. Assuming that the depression and anxiety are treated differently and separately, there is definitely a good chance that lifting depression will lift comorbid depression as well.

I was really surprised when someone wrote something about diet. I am a strong believing in 2 theories when it comes to depression:

    1. It can be caused by improper diet and exercise.

    2. It can be caused by a really depressing situation.

I think the more horrific of the 2 scenarios is the first because it is really difficult to imaging going to therapy for something that is physically wrong. Like the other answer said, serotonin is located in the digestive tract. I also think using medication is really hit and miss for this reason. We actually know very little about the brain when it comes to these matters.

If depression is somehow caused by a depressing situation like anxiety where you become hopeless from the inability to understand what causes your panic attacks, then finding a solution for your anxiety could help with depression.
